You are faced with hundreds of decisions every day. It starts the moment your alarm goes off in the morning. Should you get up, sleep, or snooze? Have that doughnut with breakfast or stick to something a bit healthier? And, it continues. No way we make all the “right” decisions throughout the day. That is an unrealistic expectation. However, to achieve our goals and have the success we are looking for, inside we know the things we must do.
Have the Right Mindset
Better decisions are made when you have the right mindset. Sounds a lot simpler than it is. Spend time to know your purpose. Get some gratitude in your life. Even keep a journal. Learn something new every day. Exercise. Get enough sleep–that’s critically important. These tasks keep falling to the bottom of our “to-do” list, but they’re all investments in making good decisions and doing better in the long run.
Choose the Right People
Spend time with the right people. I’m talking about those who encourage you and your goals –no matter how lofty– and believe in and support you. Put people in your life who don’t just say the right things but actually, DO the right things, those who have discipline in their lives and won’t interfere or try to negate yours. Seek out people who make you smile and feel good – and you do the same for them.
Stay on course
You will fall off. It’s inevitable. We all start to come off the rails from time to time. Set some time aside to periodically evaluate yourself. Take that good hard look in the mirror and ask, “Am I really doing all the right things or am I making decisions counter to my goals and creating logical-sounding justifications for them?” You know the answers. And, you also have all the power to get back and stay on track!
